Ask for a table by the window or on the terrace for a great view of Malta. Great food - surf 'n' turf & mozzarella starters delicious.
No, not cheap. But they showcased local food with precision. It is recommended for a one-off. Great views, good, classic service. Rabbit and seafood are highlights here. If you want to explore the esoteric heights of Maltese wine, this is the place.

A truly exceptional experience including the service, the view and the food. Now a Michelin Star Restaurant too. Congrats to the staff and the management.

My husband and I were so excited to eat here after the news that De Mondion was just awarded a Michelin star.
We eagerly ordered four appetizers to start. The
Octopus, Beef Cheeks, Risotto, and Agnolotti with Gorgonzola, Beetroot and horseradish were equally incredible. For our main course we chose the suckling pig and the fish of the day (Rock fish) , both dishes were average, my fish was actually a bit overdone.
Dessert was amazing, so don’t skip out on it! The date pudding was the highlight of the entire night for me!

De Mondion restaurant has exceptional food, a lovely wine list, attentive service and a very knowledgeable sommelier. The views are gorgeous and the small indoor dining room evokes a certain level of exclusivity.
Beef cheek appetizer was amazing, my husband ordered the vegetarian mushroom main and it was very good. I usually find vegetarian main courses a waste so this is a high compliment. My suckling pig was outstanding.
We had one issue- the music. The restaurant uses a “muzak” service and it was awful. Hearing classic David Bowie and the Beatles music “played” on an artificial computer device drove us both nuts.

We will be coming back again.

We were two friends. It is a good idea to reserve for dinner. We shared the snail appetizer (delish!) and then ordered the lamb and the rabbit. Shared a Cannolo for dessert. Everything was exquisite! Certainly to be recommended. It was too cool to eat outside, and the view is best appreciated during the daytime. Since we stayed at the same hotel (Xara Palace), we include pix of breakfast - also very nice - where you can appreciate the view and the food.

Booked from Sydney on the recommendation of a Maltese patient who knows the Sous chef, we were not disappointed.
Situated within the walled city of Mdina in the Relais et Chateau hotel Xara Palace, we were shown to our table with views to the east over Malta to the coast. Service was impeccable as befits this fine dining establishment. We were immediately offered aperitifs and mineral water, had the menu explained to us, and opted for the degustation menu at €90 each. Ordered a superb St Joseph Shiraz from the Rhone to accompany our meal.
All courses were excellent in their presentation, taste and execution and included octopus, a snail ragout, a grouper dish, a lamb dish then a mandarin based dessert. All dishes were complex and delicious.
Highly recommended for a fine dining experience in Malta

We went to the De Mondion restaurant with my parents for my mother's birthday and the three of us agreed after that night that it was one of our best experiences at a restaurant ever! The staff was super attentive (I told them over the phone when I booked the table that it was my mother's birthday and everybody knew it since we entered the Xara Palace until we left the place). The dishes were fantastic, especially the agnolotti (starter) as well as the rabbit loin (main course). The wine list is one of the most complete we've ever seen and the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, with a fabulous terrace overlooking Malta's countryside. It was a perfect September night. Hard to believe that we were in autumn!
Congratulations to the restaurant's chef and manager and sincere thanks to the staff for everything. It was an unforgettable evening.

De Mondian is a lovely terrace with views to Valletta. The food was excellent. The request for gluten free options was no problem. My husband had the risotto and rabbit loin both of which were delicious. My mushroom Charlotte was also excellent. De Mondian also has an impressive wine list.

Great views, foods, wine list and setting. A very special restaurantnt at an extraordinary site. Somelier directed us to great Maltese Winces and the menu options were extensive enough. Cocktails were t.more of a challenge on the downstairs bar and that was not a highligh

The de Mondion has a fabulous location in a grand building, but unfortunately the restaurant interior is utterly banal. We were supposed to be seated on the terrace with amazing views over the countryside and out to the coast, but because it had rained for 15 minutes, they brought everyone inside, just before we arrived. So we were offered a table near a window - you see some view but the lights in the restaurant mean you mainly see reflections of yourselves and the other tables. This is a failing in their lighting design. (Given it was 30degrees outside the rain dried quickly and I noticed most tables outside were under cover I thought thus a poor show).
The food was good - beautifully cooked and presented, but the choice was limited and left me a little stumped as to what to choose...went for the lamb .cooked perfectly but the cut was rather fatty. Husband had the rabbit which was presented charmingly (like a mini hedge row of mushrooms and greens that resembled a mossy forest floor) and which was again cooked to perfection.
Unforgivable behaviour by other diners who thought it appropriate to show video clips - with sound - from their mobile phones whilst waiting to pay. This whilst still at their table with other diners still eating around them. Staff said nothing.
Supposed to be in an up-market restaurant ! Evidently strangers to the most modest etiquette.

This is a must if you wanted fine dining in Malta. The cheese platter was superlative and the stand-out dish. The wine selection was also superlative and I truly enjoyed a bottle of red from the Judean hills of Israel, a wine i have not been able to locate in any other restaurant in the world or at home.
This is for those who enjoy the finer things in life and want to experience the best of Malta when they are there.

We ate here last year while in Malta and enjoyed it so much we decided to return on another recent visit. We pre-booked a table on the terrace, and the view did not disappoint. Every staff member we encountered from the hotel through to the restaurant was friendly polite and very professional. The waiting staff were very knowledgeable about the food and explained each dish as it was served. We had three courses, wine and coffee and were very happy with everything that was served to us. On our last visit I felt there were a few tiny things that could be refined, on this visit everything was spot on - this experience has become the standard I'll judge others by!

Saved this for our last meal in Malta. Did the tasting menu and every course was delicious. Coupled with amazing views and impeccable service and all in all it really was fantastic in every way. Highly recommend and will definitely come back when next in Malta.

We visited the restaurant with my husband on a busy Friday night. The service was excellent as well as the food. We have visited hundreds of Michelin starred restaurants and I believe that de Mondion deserves at least one.
The hotel is also a must see in Mdina. The whole experience was beyond expectations. Congrats to the team!
